Stay Hydrated

  • Carry 1 liter of water for every 2 hours that you hike

  • Have extra water or a sports drink in the car for after the hike

 

Pack Energizing Snacks

  • Make sure to bring snacks that have healthy fats, complex carbs and protein that will be a good source of energy

  • Trail mix-granola- fresh & dried fruit- peanut butter-jerky-veggies & hummus- nuts & seeds- tuna with crackers- bananas-energy bars

 

Protect Yourself from the Sun

  • Don’t forget sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and lip balm

 

Use Bug Spray

  • Ticks are a real problem in PA, bug spray with Deet works best on them

  • Mosquitoes and other bugs can really ruin a hike

  • Don’t forget to use pet safe bug spray on your dog too

 

Pack a First Aid Kit

  • Bandages and gauze

  • Antibiotic ointment

  • Paper soap and hand sanitizer

  • Pain relief medication

  • Elastic bandage

  • Moleskin for blisters
