Steinman Run is a great hike if you are looking to get out into nature. This wooded trail takes you up and down several hills and along and across a stream. There are several outcroppings of rocks along the way which add to the scenery. It's a great trail anytime of year, but the forest setting is especially pretty in the fall. The preserve is 315 acres and part of the Lancaster Conservancy.
You can hike the trail as a figure 8 loop or as a small or a larger loop. If you start the trail by going right you will go up and then down a fairly steep hill. Once you come down the hill you will come to the stream and the trail turns left down what looks like a utility road. Go down the utility road if you want to hike the short loop. If you want to hike the larger loop, cross the stream, the trail picks up to the left just after you cross it. There are "No Trespassing" signs on the other side of the stream. This is referring to the dirt road that is straight ahead, not the trail that goes to the left.
The larger loop is definitely more picturesque. You follow Steinman Run and will cross over a short wooden bridge before you are reunited with the dirt utility trail from earlier. The trail then goes to the left to take you back to the parking lot. If you follow the utility road you will pass a sign for the preserve. You've actually passed the turn for the trail if you come to the sign.

From Lancaster city go south on N. Prince St/PA 222 S
Right onto PA 324 S/New Danville Pike
Left onto PA 324 S/ 741 E
At Cherry Hill Orchard go straight to continue on PA 324 S
Right when you come to a âTâ in the road onto Pennsy Rd.
Left onto Red Hill Rd.
Left onto Stump Rd.
